Effective July 1, 2025, Blackhawk SERPA and SERPA-style holsters that engage or retain the firearm via the trigger guard are prohibited for use during this training.
Completion of this one-day firearms safety course satisfies or exceeds the training requirements mandated by the State of Connecticut for pistol permit applicants.
This program is designed to teach safe, responsible handgun handling and includes live-fire instruction with both semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. Instruction is delivered by certified firearms instructors, including NRA-certified professionals with extensive field and training experience.

- Basic pistol operation (semi-automatic pistols and revolvers)
- Firearm nomenclature, safety, and handling procedures
- Ammunition types, safety, and proper handling
- Safe storage of firearms and ammunition
- Fundamentals of pistol shooting and shooting positions
- Standard range safety rules and commands
- Identification and resolution of common firearm malfunctions
- Cleaning, care, and maintenance of handguns
- Additional foundational firearms safety concepts
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate or letter of completion. This documentation may be used when applying for a pistol permit in the State of Connecticut, Florida, and other jurisdictions where applicable.
Connecticut Pistol Permit Application Process
- Complete an approved firearms safety course
- Obtain an application packet
- Complete the application and gather documentation
- Submit application to local issuing authority
- Background investigation
- Temporary State Pistol Permit (if approved)
- Appeal process (if denied)
