Important Equipment Notice
Effective July 1, 2025, Blackhawk SERPA and SERPA-style holsters that engage or retain the firearm via the trigger guard are prohibited for use during this training.
Designed for individuals who carry a single-action 1911 pistol in either a professional or personal capacity, this comprehensive training program develops the knowledge and skills required to operate the platform safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Through a combination of classroom instruction, demonstrations, and live-fire range exercises, students will gain a thorough understanding of the 1911 pistol's design, operation, maintenance, and performance under realistic conditions.

- Operator-level disassembly and reassembly
- Inspection, maintenance, and proper lubrication
- Common modifications and replacement parts
- Safe presentation and draw techniques
- Fundamentals of combat shooting and combat marksmanship
- Reloading techniques and malfunction clearance
- Shooting while moving
- Engaging multiple threats and shot placement considerations
- Hand transitions and one-handed shooting
- Alternate shooting positions
- Terminal ballistics and projectile effects on living tissue
- Ammunition selection and performance considerations for the 1911 platform
Required Equipment
- Single-action 1911 pistol (9mm or larger caliber)
- Secondary handgun (recommended in the event of primary weapon failure)
- Minimum of 4 magazines (8 recommended) for the primary pistol
- Minimum of 4 magazines (8 recommended) for the secondary pistol, if carried
- Strong-side outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster (cross-draw holsters are not permitted)
- Sturdy gun belt
- Double OWB magazine pouch
- Closed-toe footwear
- Brimmed hat
- Long-sleeve shirt and full-length pants (shorts are not permitted)
- Weather-appropriate clothing and rain gear
- Personal hydration system (recommended)
- Wraparound eye protection and hearing protection
- Pocket notebook and pen
- 500 rounds of ammunition
