Course Overview
Important Equipment Notice
Effective July 1, 2025, Blackhawk SERPA and SERPA-style holsters that engage or retain the firearm via the trigger guard are prohibited for use during this training.
- Duration: 3 days
- Friday evening: Classroom or Online instruction
- Saturday & Sunday: Live-fire range training
- Focus: Developing the skills needed to operate a handgun during close-range violent encounters, including weapon handling, movement, and decision-making.

- Combat marksmanship fundamentals
- Combat mindset and close-quarters tactics
- Fighting in confined spaces
- Point shooting versus sighted fire
- Drawing from concealed or open carry
- Reloading and malfunction clearing
- Cover versus concealment and using cover effectively
- Accuracy considerations for single and multiple shots
- One-handed shooting (master and support hand)
- Engaging multiple targets
- Moving while shooting (forward, backward, and lateral)
- Shot placement
- Alternate shooting positions
Required Equipment
- Primary handgun (9mm or larger)
- Backup handgun (recommended)
- At least 4 magazines (8 recommended)
- Outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster (no cross-draw)
- Sturdy belt
- Magazine pouch
- Long pants, long-sleeve shirt, closed-toe shoes, brimmed hat
- Eye and ear protection
- Rain gear
- Water/hydration
- Insect repellent
- Notebook and pen
- 850 rounds of ammunition
